Those Proton apps that were installed, they’re the backbone of any installed game, whether it’s through Lutris, or through Steam. From Steam’s GitHub for Proton
Proton is a tool for use with the Steam client which allows games which are exclusive to Windows to run on the Linux operating system. It uses Wine to facilitate this.
Basically, it’s a folder that the game is installed in, that contains a modified Windows environment, with just enough of a system to run the game through Wine. Unfortunately, Proton is not a one sized fits all solution, so these tools just allow us some further configurations, for our games, or Cheats/Trainers.
ProtonUp-QT
This app saves us from having to install Proton packages the hard way, and allows us to install only the ones we need, allowing us to install Proton prefixes for Lutris, Steam, and any other Wine environments it may find, like Bottles. We’re going to touch more on these later, like when we go over WeMod
ProtonPlus
I’m still kind of new to this one, and have only had to peak in here a couple of times to install some DXVKs, but it’s a juiced up ProtonUp-QT. You can find more info on it on their GitHub
ProtonTricks
This little beauty, well this allows us to change Proton Prefix settings through WineTricks for games, and applications (I see you eyeing WeMod), installed through Steams Library in the Steam App
Obviously, I’ll delve more into it when we go through the WeMod installed, or show you installing Quacked/Cracked games
